MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has signed an agreement with the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) to establish a direct business-to-consumer (B2C) ordering system for Guimaras’ famous mangoes.

The move is aimed at expanding market access for local producers while providing Metro Manila consumers with easier access to one of the country’s most prized fruits.

The memorandum of understanding, signed during the Manggahan Festival in Guimaras, outlines a logistics and distribution partnership between the two agencies that allows customers in Metro Manila to order mangoes directly from the Guimaras Mango Growers and Producers Cooperative through a digital platform.

Under the agreement, consumers will be able to scan a QR code featured on marketing materials to place their orders.

PHLPost will handle last-mile delivery, with a fixed shipping fee of P470 for addresses within Metro Manila.

‘Bagong Pilipinas’

Trade Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque said the partnership is part of the Marcos administration’s push under its “Bagong Pilipinas” initiative to strengthen local industries and connect them more efficiently to broader markets.

“This partnership with PHLPost is more than just a logistics solution — it’s about bringing the pride of Guimaras straight to Filipino homes,” Roque said in a statement.

“In line with the directives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. under the ‘Bagong Pilipinas,’ we are strengthening local industries and making sure our hardworking farmers earn what they truly deserve. At the same time, we’re giving Filipino families in Metro Manila easier access to our world-class Guimaras mangoes–fresh, fair-priced, and proudly local,” she added.

For his part, PHLPost Postmaster General Luis Carlos expressed strong commitment to this program, touting its role in facilitating economic opportunities for local producers.

The DTI said that the Guimaras Mango Growers and Producers Cooperative was preparing to handle direct B2C transactions, marking a shift from traditional middleman-heavy supply chains.

The DTI said it hopes the initiative can serve as a model for similar partnerships in other agricultural sectors.
