Record-low fuel surcharge seen to bring down airfares in June
MANILA, Philippines — Airfares are seen to go down in June after the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) imposed a record-low fuel surcharge, in time for the surge in domestic and international travel.
In an advisory on Wednesday, the regulator downgraded the fuel surcharge to Level 3 for June from the current Level 4.
Passengers will pay additional P83 to P300 for domestic flights and P273.36 to P2,032.54 for flights abroad under Level 3.
These are lower compared with Level 4 rates: P117 to P342 for domestic flights and P385.70 to P2,867.82 for international flights.
Fuel surcharges are additional fees imposed by airlines to help them recover fuel costs. These are separate from the base fare, which is the actual amount paid by the passenger for his or her seat.
